Everything you want to know about Rolfing and working with Amy

All Questions

Rolfing is a form of hands-on bodywork that reorganizes the connective tissue (fascia) throughout your body. Developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf in the 1950s, it works to align your body within gravity — reducing chronic pain, improving posture, and restoring natural ease of movement. Unlike massage, which targets muscles, Rolfing addresses the whole-body fascial system.

Most people describe Rolfing as firm but deeply satisfying pressure — not painful, but purposeful. Sessions involve both hands-on work and subtle movement cues. Many clients report feeling taller, lighter, and more grounded after a session.

Rolfing is particularly effective for chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain; poor posture; repetitive strain injuries; headaches; sciatica; and restricted mobility. It is also popular with athletes for performance and recovery, and with people who spend long hours at a desk.

Amy typically works with clients in a series of sessions. Many people start with the classic 10-series — a structured sequence that systematically addresses the whole body. However, single sessions and shorter series are also available depending on your goals.

Massage primarily relaxes muscles through repetitive strokes. Rolfing works with fascia — the web of connective tissue that holds your body together — to create lasting structural change. The effects of Rolfing tend to be cumulative and long-lasting, often producing changes that continue evolving for weeks after a session.

Yes. Rolfing is practiced by certified practitioners trained through the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration. Amy Pursell is a certified Rolfer with extensive training. Rolfing is appropriate for most people, including children and older adults. Amy will discuss your health history before your first session.

Amy practices in Lafayette, Colorado, conveniently located for clients throughout the Boulder–Denver metro area including Boulder, Longmont, Louisville, Broomfield, and Erie.

You can book directly online using the Book a Session button at the top of any page. Sessions are available by appointment. If you have questions first, feel free to reach out by email — Amy is happy to answer before you commit.

Individual sessions are $225. For best results, Amy recommends the complete 10-series — when you commit to the full series you save $500 off the individual rate ($1,750 total).

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will undress to your underwear (and bra if applicable) so Amy can observe your body's structure and movement. Comfortable undergarments you can move freely in are ideal.

Rolfing is not typically covered directly by insurance. However, Amy can provide a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. HSA and FSA accounts may also be used to cover sessions.
